Laundry Room Remodel - Part 2

I am half way there with my laundry room remodel.
If you remember,

Laundry Room Remodel - Part 1,

this is the next step. I am not all the way finished, but I thought I would show my progress.

I told our cabinet company what I had envisioned, and he was able to do EXACTLY what I wanted! I had them bring all the pieces to me, so I could paint them the same as what I am planning to paint the bottom of the walls. I painted the other side of the wrong piece... hence the wood color on the side next to the hutch. HOW ANNOYING?!? I thought I was so smart... I guess not. I am going to have to pull the hutch out, and paint the side.

I am starting to play with accessorizing the hutch, and a good amount of the things it holds are from the DI... all the glass canisters, the gray pot, the cup that holds the plant, and the colorful metal container.

I love the little birdies. When I saw them yesterday, I knew I had to have them, and didn't know what to do with them, but DL told me to hang them on the hutch... brilliant!!! I heart them, and advice from great girlfriends!

I am having a hard time fitting everything on the screen of my camera now that everything is in. I do LOVE the shelving unit though, and especially the bead board backing!!! I had them build it so I could put both laundry basket's on the middle, and out of the way. Perfect!

I think a laundry room should be as happy a place as possible, and that's why I chose this bright fresh color. It's a Behr paint from Home Depot, and it's called {Herbal Garden}. Makes me happy, happy, happy!!!

Now, on to the bottom of the walls... my man doesn't want to do anything too invasive behind the washer and dryer. He doesn't even want to move them, and I don't blame him. So... these are the options for us. (Anything we do, would just go down about a foot behind the washed and dryer.)

Bead board and top molding
Colonial style vertical boards with a basic horizontal molding on top
Horizontal top mold, and squares below.

What do you think would be best? They style of the rest of my house lends it's self more to the horizontal top mold with squares below, but I did put bead board in the back of the cabinet...

Please leave a comment! I want to hear what you have to say :)

  3. I'm so jealous. My laundry room needs some shelving desperately. It's been on our project list, but it just keeps getting moved to the bottomt.

As far as the wall goes, I'm going to say bead board... I think it would look nice with the board you have in your cabinets. But honestly, I think either would look spectacular.

  4. i'm thinking the squares + molding would look good because they would echo the shapes and possible scale (not sure what the dimensions are of the squares) of the openings in the new shelving as well as the appliances themselves, however, they may 'dwarf' the size of that window. you could extend the curtain rod and make a new curtain just a little bit wider to create balance with the squares.

yet, you have vertical backings in both the hutch and the shelving, so putting verticals there might coordinate well, too!

i guess i'm with anj in a way... both would work :)

    happy finishings ;)

  16. I have to say you are a genius. I have often wondered what people with such cute laundry rooms do with their clothes basket when not in use. I only do laundry once a week, so it's pretty much always in my way. i love how you got a spot just for them. great idea.
