Seed Paper in ACTION!

Now that you have seen my seed paper tutorials, I thought you may want to see it in action! We had a family history themed Enrichment tonight, and the theme was the scripture from D&C 2:2 that reads...

"And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers."

So, I thought... how perfect to have the favor be a heart that you can plant!!!

These are a few shots of the table before we put the dessert on.

The dessert was super delish, by the way...
COOKIE SHEET CREAM PUFF.
I should have taken a picture.

I know... I have an obsession with gingham, especially since it is $1.50 a yard at Wal-mart!

See the seed banner? The seed packets were $.20 each, so I thought - why not?

Here is the framed scripture.

The next few shots are of ways sisters in the ward display their family history.

We started the night with a great speaker. Christy, you were AWESOME!

Then Becca's brother taught us how to index. He was great!

After the indexing, we moved into the primary room for refreshments, and to see the display.

Yes, I am including a picture of the forks. Well, not the forks only, but the hankies under the forks. DO YOU LOVE THEM???

I got them at DI one day, and felt SO LUCKY! I am glad I got to use them finally!

It was a nice night. Attendance was poor, but it was fun to chat with those that were there, and to learn something new.

Have a Happy and Creative Day!

SEW PERFECT!

SEW... my cute friend got called to the Enrichment Leader in my ward with short notice before the next activity, which also happened to be a big one - the Birthday celebration. I asked what I could do, and offered to do the tables and the decor. She gladly accepted my offer. I saw this idea on a blog a while ago, and wanted to do something similar, but never had the chance until now. You can see the blog HERE. You can also visit my pinterest board for more sewing inspiration.

I felt the whole night turned out SEW cute!

Here are a few shots:

I had decorating help from Michelle and Toni. They are the best - totally delivered!

Michelle's husband made the pattern apron. I don't know if he wants me to say that!

Toni got the vintage quilt at an Estate sale for like $20!!! I know - right?!?

The old sewing machine was Toni's grandmothers. LUCKY!

Cute Michelle framed cool vintage patterns.

The frame was one I picked up at DI and painted.

I loved all the colors, and how everything came together.

This is the invitation. I designed it in picasa.

Here are the tables. I found cute gingham fabric at Wal-mart for $1.50 a yard... you read it right, $1.50 a yard. Sew, I made 8 table cloths on four colors; dark pink, light pink, navy, and a deep yellow. If you have read my blog very often, you know I LOVE gingham! See the banner in the background on the piano? I stapled it together last minute.

The centerpiece was sitting on the instructions from the pattern.

I knew I wanted something cute and inexpensive for the center pieces, and I found it. I got a pattern for $.25 at the DI, and made pattern flowers. It actually went pretty fast as I was able to cut a lot of layers at the same time.

Then I decorated the tin cans. Wal-mart happened to have pink measuring tape - PERFECT!

This is how my kitchen looked before.

Then, I sewed together 64 parchment paper bags, and cute Michelle cut the tops with pinking sheers, and pinned all the labels on them with real pins! CUTE, right?!?

Inside was delicious chex mix treats made with funfetti cake mix. Super delish! See the cute blue zigzagged thread? LOVE!

Here is a shot of our cute RS Pres and Melissa who spoke. Well done Melissa!

Here are the beautiful and talented singers!

I got so carried away taking pictures of the decorations, that I didn't really get any of the service area. We tied two quilts, and worked on craft kits for Primary Children's and the Christmas Box House (I hope I said that right). Monica amazing organized the service end of things. It was perfect!

Here's the food. Wasn't it pretty? It was delicious as well! Chicken salad sandwiches, simple Caesar salad, fruit, and cupcakes for dessert. They were in with the decorations. Did you see them? Do you see the patterns under the food on the tables? ;)

Phew... what a busy day. It was such a great night, and well worth it. I love my neighbors!

All about GINGHAM, and The Littles...

I admit it... I have had a slight obsession with gingham lately... gingham ribbon, gingham fabric, gingham paper... you name it, I am drawn to it. Maybe it reminds me of my childhood? I learned how to cross stitch on gingham.

I have another obsession with using real linens at meal time. Forget about the paper stuff. I love cloth napkins, and if I can't find what I am looking for, I don't mind making them.

Part of my gingham obsession may have to do with the fun things I have found for a Wizard of Oz themed party. If you follow me on pinterest, you may have noticed my, Wizard of Oz, pins. If not, you can check out my board here.

I found this blue gingham fabric at Wal-mart for $1.50 per yard. So, of course, I bought all they had! I was home yesterday with a sick daughter, who was glued to Net Flix. She watched The Littles all day! I decided to join her, and make some napkins with my gingham.

This is how they turned out.

I put lace on only one side, because two sides is too much time and money, and no one really sees it anyway.

I like them folded this way... I think it is unexpected.

My daughter likes them this way, which is also cute. I may use them for an upcoming party for my son, and not even have the lace showing! That would be more boyish - right?

A little about, The Littles... I used to LOVE that show! I watched it every Saturday morning. I was convinced that little people lived in the walls of my bedroom. I think my kids now think The Littles live here. That's fine with me ;)

Back to the napkins. I am loving the flat lace that I got 1/2 off at Michael's.

(These are the same napkin, just folded different.)

They turned out SO cute... I think I will add them to my Pinterest board. I have never pinned anything from my blog before. There's a first time for everything - right?

CROSS STITCH 101

I mentioned the mini-classes my kids are involved in the last post. Well today, I hosted for my daughter and three of her darling friends. I remember the way my mom taught me to cross stitch, was using gingham. So, I decided to do the same thing with these girls.

I made them each an embroidery pouch to keep everything in when they were finished. I decided to do this literally one hour before they came.

Luckily, I had a bunch of cloth napkins I had started (and not finished) making. Did you know - I LOVE cloth napkins, and have many drawers bulging with them? I think they add so much to a meal and make your table look and feel beautiful!

Anyhoo... The edges were all serged and pressed. All I had to do was finish the two short edges, press everything how I wanted it, and sew down two sides. It really didn't even take 1/2 hr. I think they make better embroidery pouches than napkins anyway.

Each girl got a hoop. I got them each a 6" hoop from Ben Franklin. They were $1.09 each. My daughter picked a bunch of floss, so they all got to choose pieces or whatever color they wanted.

Last night, I marked a pattern for each girls name with a pencil on the gingham. It did take a while to figure out how large to do the letters, but after I figured it out, it was easy. I used graph paper for practice before marking the fabric up.

When the girls got here, they each got this felt which I stitched beforehand. They stuffed it with batting, and I stitched it closed to make a pincushion.

We don't want to lose any needles!
I already had the scraps, buttons, thread, and pins, so it cost me nothing, and added a cute touch.

Most of them had finished their name by the time the class was over.

Aren't they darling?!? What a fun day. I love being a mom, and getting to know my children's friends. The thing I liked best, was sitting with the girls on the floor in the family room basically the whole time, and just listening to them talk about their cute little lives.

My daughter said it was the best craft she has ever made. She wanted to make one for her brother, so I found a piece of mini hounds-tooth fabric, and marked his name on there for her. She is almost finished. Wow... who knew she would like it so much?

Have a Happy and Creative Day!
