CAMP KICKOFF!!! {Girls Camp}

Girls Camp is in a little over a week, and I can't wait!We had our camp kickoff a few weeks ago, and I thought I would share a few of the photos with you! We had all the wards make a flag that will be at their ward's camp site, and bring it to the kickoff. These are the flags. They are on pvc posts, and will be held up using re-bar at camp. The wards were asked to make their flag in the size of a king-sized pillow sham, using their ward's name, theme and color.

If you remember my post about 3'x4' photo enlargements, we decided to do the same thing for each ward. They will be displayed near the amphitheater at camp. I can't wait to show you how we will display them.

The girls each got to sign their name on their wards poster. They loved doing this, and were so excited to see the photos at kickoff!

We had tables set up with our camp logo printed on 4"x6" photos. We asked each girl to write on the back, what she would do to, "let her light shine." They wrote so many sweet things.

See how there are holes punched in the top? These will be strung up along with cut up reusable shopping bag pieces that are cut in the same size as the logo photos into a banner, that will hang in the pavilion, so the girls can see what each other wrote on the back. I am really excited for this!

We gave them each a little print out of our camp scripture/theme, which is:

Lisa got a bag of toe rings from Panda Hall for $4. They have suns on them. So, we thought it was fitting, and we made a little hand-out for each girl.

We had the YCL's do a little skit, which included a stomp for the scripture. We played games, sang fun camp songs, including going on a, "lion hunt." We then had a few spiritual thoughts, and closed with the girls singing our camp theme song. It was so awesome to hear their sweet voices, and the beautiful words of that song. I would by lying if I said I didn't get a little teary when I heard them sing this for the first time. I am not in Young Women's, so I haven't heard them practice every week. It was a real treat!

You can listen HERE.

These are the words:

Light On A Hill
From the CD “Arise and Shine Forth” by Jenny Phillips

You are just one light in the darkness
Traveling by faith
But just one light
Is hope to the ones who’ve lost their way

You are a light on a hill
It cannot be hidden
Cannot be still
Sharing His light
‘Til the whole world is filled
You are a light on a hill

In a world that’s lost and lonely
Heaven works through you
Bringing hope to those who are searching
For the truth

Chorus

Father rejoices on high
For the beauty that fills up your life
In all that you do
You have been true
And others can see Him through you

Chorus

You can find the cd HERE

Barbie Sleeping Bag Banner and a Popsicle Tent

I was recently called as the Stake Girls Camp Assistant Director. The Director is fabulous, talented, amazing... the list could go on and on. She is also SUPER ORGANIZED. She had much of it already planned by the time I was called, so I thought I could help at least, by making the meeting cute ;) The kick-off meeting for the leaders was tonight, and this is how it looked. This is the refreshment table. I decided yesterday, to make a sleeping bag banner (barbie sized), using leftover fabric from my own stash, and some my sister-in-law gave me... Thanks Joe - loves to you :)

I hung the banner on the DI frame that I painted. It was even more cute in real life.

Here is a close up of a few of the sleeping bags. My daughter kept asking what time the meeting would be over, so she could play with them.

The little bunting was based on the scripture theme, and reads SHINE. Lisa just happened to have five containers of wheat grass... of course she did. You are amazing Lisa!

Here's the scripture I turned into subway art.

I was thinking I needed to make a tent, and had a very hard time finding one online. I took my inspiration from HERE. Also, do you see the runner under the tray? I made it last year for my babies blessing day luncheon. You can see the luncheon HERE. I think I forgot to take pictures of the runner before.

Remember my GNOME PARTY? Well, I used the tray, lantern, and dollar store moss rocks to go around the tent and table.

Speaking of tables... I made this out of Popsicle sticks just this afternoon.

This was the table outside the door.

I stitched folders for everyone by folding OLD scrapbook paper in half, and zigzagging up the sides with the sewing machine. I even added a ribbon loop on one side to hold a pen.

It was a FUN NIGHT, and I am so excited for girls camp. It has been almost 20 years. Am I really that old???

Oh, and here is a shot of the favor that was on each seat. I forgot to get a photo of it tonight. This is on my counter top shortly after I finished them. I just printed the subway art black and white in a wallet size, and glued it and a candle on to a piece of yellow paper I already had.

Up next, I will be showing the preparation and party for my daughter's 10th birthday. Be sure and come back. You won't want to miss it! It was and Indian / Bollywood theme, and oh so much fun!

Have a Happy and Creative Day!
