Vintage LITTLE PEOPLE 3D wall art

I couple posts ago, I wrote about a few things I found at the local thrift store, DI, but wasn't able to finish. You can see the post HERE. Well... I finished one of them today, and it turned out SO cute, I want to squeal...EEEEEEE!

I have mentioned before, we are finishing our basement, and most of the toys are in the garage. I decided to get out to the garage, and get the Little People farm set for my baby today. I brought the whole bin of people in. (I had an obsession with them when my other kids were babies, and own pretty much every set.) So... yes, we have a whole bin just for the characters. Well, I looked through that bin 4 times in the garage a few weeks ago, looking for the vintage circus animals, that were my husband's when he was little. No luck. The kids tried to tell me I gave them away, and I knew I never would have. When I went through the bin, I found the circus animals.

I. WAS. SO. EXCITED!!!

I ran right upstairs, and got this lovely frame I bought at the DI a few weeks ago for $5. I broke the glass out, used the same mat that was already there, and turned the picture around.

I then hooked the animals on with command strips - didn't really work very well, so I moved on to large, super strength glue dots. They worked perfectly!

I attached new hooks on the back, and hung it right away!

Aren't these animals just SO DARLING?!?
They don't make them like that anymore.

The view from below, shows my husband's initial on the belly of the elephant. So sweet!

The giraffe and monkey are both missing their tails, but I don't mind, and think it adds to the character.

Thank you to my sweet mother-in-law, Margaret for saving these cute animals.

Have a Happy and Creative Day!

Look what I am working on today!!!

So, I was looking for some kind of table to put in my family room. I wanted doors instead of drawers, and I wanted a certain depth. Well, like my friend Kami says... "If you put it out there in the universe, it will come to you." So, I put it out there, and a few days later, I found this at the DI! It was the bottom part of a gun rack. I talked the folks at the DI down from $50 to $25, because I only wanted the bottom. It has been in the garage for a few weeks, and I am ready to get going today on painting it.

Look at the top. I pondered for a while what to do. It had a cut piece of marble on the top, with a large section cut out for the gun rack. I got rid of the marble, but the thought of getting all the glue off and making the top smooth makes me tired! So, I got a piece of veneered wood from Home Depo for $20. I had them cut it for me so it had an overhang, and we put it on top.

The edges were raw, so the handy Home Depo man helped me find a cheap and easy solution... This veneered edging! (Which is also paintable.)

This stuff is great! My nice husband (who normally tries to stay far away from my projects) helped me a ton with this. We followed the directions on the back of the package, but used a blow dryer instead of the iron. It was definitely a two person job. He also attached the top board. Thanks honey!

Well... time to get started! I will report back soon on my progress :)

Have a Happy and Creative Day!

Chair with a Facelift

So, I have been looking for a chair for Sophie's room for quite a while. I found one at Down East Home the other day, but it was $99. That was way more that I wanted to pay, so I kept looking. I found this at DI, and it was $3.... yes, $3! So, I brought it home, and gave it a coat of paint, and reupholstered it, and voila... look how well it works!!!

I didn't want anything too big, or with arms. This was just what I was looking for. I love how the fabric on the seat matches the little plant holder on her desk.

Table redo

I have postponed posting for a while, because I lost the memory card where the {before photos} for this post are stored. I don't know how I lost it, but I just decided to post anyway, so you will have to use your imagination. If I happen to find the card in the future, I will add the photos to the post :)

I have been looking for a table at DI for a while, that had good bones, and I found this one last week. It was $10, and very sturdy. It looked like a honey maple, with some minor wear and tear, that I found added to it's personality. I knew I wanted to glaze it, so I was happy for a few minor scratches and dings.

Anyhow... I spray painted it this blue called {blue slate} by Rustoleum. I have to just say... I LOVE the Ultra Cover 2X. I never have to do two coats, and it goes so far!

So, imagine that I have a picture of the table in natural wood here:

Imagine I have a picture of the table after being spray painted, but before glaze here:

You have such a good imagination! :)

Here are the after shots. I think it is just what the room needed!

Easy Peasy Jewelry Organizing!

I have this girlfriend who is super organized, and my jewelry would give her stress every time she saw it. She has been telling me for months, that she is going to find an inexpensive solution for organizing it. And... she did!!!

She was at DI the other day, and got this (a hot wheels car organizer) for $2!
She says instead of, "hot wheels," it should say, "hot mama." Ha Ha!!!
My son is jealous!

Thanks Donnalynn! Love you girlie :)

None of my jewelry is expensive, but I am a bead-a-holic, and make too many bracelets!

I found this organizer last week for $3!

Time for even more organizing!

Price tag to prove it!
