Pillowcase Purse





I decided to take on the challenge to make something for under $5. This came in WAY under, and was easy to do.

My mom and I went to DI yesterday, and I got these two pillow cases for $1 total - for both.




I didn't know what I was going to do with them at first. I thought about making a skirt, but as I sat the fabric there, it looked like it would be the perfect layered vintage looking purse.



I cut the two layers where I thought would be a good length.



I was left with one short and one long piece of plain pillowcase. I cut the long piece in half, and used to make an inside and outside part of the body of the purse.



I used the short piece to make the straps.




This is how I made the corners for the inside liners of the purse.





This is how I made the straps. I sewed across the top of the strap, so I could have an easier time turning it right side out.



I sewed the lace pieces together at the top, and set the two body pieces together, with the raw edges facing each other.

Then I tucked the top of the lace pieces (shell) in between the body pieces at the top.




I knotted the straps for extra interest, and tucked the straps into the sides and pinned everything in place. Then I sewed around the top.




It was really easy, and only cost me $1!
