Wheat Grass

Today on Studio 5, I shared my new favorite way to grow wheat grass... On a paper towel!

This process takes 11 days.

Soak your wheat in water for 24-48 hours.
(I use white wheat. The same wheat I use for baking bread.)

Get 3 layers of paper towels wet, and lay them in the bottom of the container you plan to grow your wheat grass in.

Get 2 more layers of wet paper towels, and place over the top of the wheat.
Spray with a water bottle multiple times throughout the day, and make sure they are moist at all times.

Once the wheat starts to sprout, remove the top layer of paper towel, and continue to spritz with water to maintain moisture.

This is a comparison picture of the soil and the paper towel method on day 5. You can see the wheat grass on the paper towel is doing way better much earlier.

The roots will grow into the paper towels like this.

This is a comparison of paper towel grass and soil grass on day 8.

Paper towel grass.

Soil grass.

On day 11, you can trim the top of the wheat to an even level, and cut around the bottom, to make the shape of the container you plan to use for display. One thing I really like about it, is that you can put it on a plate, and it looks clean, and there is no soil to deal with. It's really pretty!

Spring and Easter Gardens

Today on Studio 5, I am sharing mini Easter gardens. These are the examples I brought.

They are fun to place all around your home in the spring. They bring life into your home, with a subtle nod to Easter.

First, spray paint your eggs to the color of your liking. I prefer gold. I got my eggs for $.99 each from Michael's.

I put one succulent in each of the gold eggs, and filled in with dirt.

The key with these, is to add lots of moss variety. You can fin moss anywhere from Walmart to any craft store. I got little clear easter eggs at Hobby Lobby, and put dirt, moss, and a bunny inside. It was extra adorable.

They are charming and adorable! Once Easter if over, the succulents and cacti can be replanted in a different container.

This is how they looked on the show.

Louie The Leprechaun Book and Stuffed Leprechaun review

St. Patricks  Day was the most fun at my house, growing up. The leprechauns would turn milk green, and sometimes do other mischievious things. Nothing like the naughty elf that visits at Christmas... It was just fun to go to bed the night before St. Patricks Day, and wake up to things in the wrong place, and things died green, toilet water included. Our Leprechauns were awesome! I always wondered how they did it all, and why.

This darling little book was sent to me by the folks at
It explains the whole thing, and comes with the most darling little stuffed leprechaun, named Louie!

This book is sweet, and engaging. My son was enthralled! We opened the package together, and he was so excited. He almost burst! We read the book together, and then he insisted on, "reading," it to me six more times. Louie did not leave his side for a whole day, and I finally had to put him out of reach so he was still in great condition for this post, incase I needed anymore pictures. He asked to sleep with Louie! He will get to now. I can't wait to tel him.

Every day, he asks me when the leprechauns are coming. There is something about having a fun toy and book set to really bring the magic to life for a child.

If you are looking for a fun, sweet, and low maintenance tradition to start for your family, check out Loiue The Leprechaun
I think this will become a beloved tradition for our family. I only wish I had it for the big kids when they were young!

DIY Faux Fur Stools

Fur footstools and chairs have been all over Pinterest lately, and I just had to get in on the trend. I have had fur pillows in my home for years, but never furniture. I love the texture and interest that bringing fur into your decor adds. It gives a little softness, and a bohemian vibe.

I searched high and low to find a base for my stools. I wanted vintage, but clean lines and not super decorative. I am not kidding when I say, I went to 12 stores in my search for perfect bases, 12! I found little tables that would be perfect, but I didn't want to pay $60-$100 each, because for my space, I wanted a pair. and if I am paying that much, I may as well not have to DIY anything!

I came home first with side tables, that I planned to put a wooden top on, but they were too high, and didn't make sense. I went to the hardware store, thinking I would just hook legs to a round piece of wood, and the legs were all too decorative, if they were tall enough, and the legs I liked weren't tall enough, like only 3-5 inches. It was very frustrating! I knew I wanted them to flank my table, and not be too huge.

I found these little chairs at my last stop, a local thrift store, called Deseret Industries, here in Utah. They were $10 each. They were perfect. I can't tell you how happy I was!

They thing that attracted me to them, was the base. The color is lovely, a goldish taupe, with shiny gold trim.

I loved the legs, and loved the fact that I could screw the whole bottom off. My son was excited to sit in the chair tops, and told me how nice they were.

I had originally intended to throw the chair tops away, and use round wooden discs from Home Depot (one of the 12 stores I visited) for the seats.

I was all ready to go out and spend a bunch of money on foam, when I was like, DUH! I'll just use the bases that came with the chairs! They are not perfectly symmetrical, but you would never know, because the fur is so forgiving.

I did buy a piece of foam from store number 13, Joann's. It was $7 on sale.

I also like the fur from Joann's the best. It was $39/yard, but I used a 50% off coupon, and an additional $5 off coupon, and was able to really bring the price down. I picked up some other fur from Hancock fabrics earlier, but it was shorter than I was hoping for.

I taped the foam in place. It really wasn't moving. I used 1 yard of fur to do both chairs, and still had some left over. Then, I just stapled the fur in place! It took under 5 minutes per chair. I likes the cool vintage writing on the bottom of the chair.

The fur is super forgiving, but sheds like crazy! Night time pics sure are different than day time styled pics!

I love how they turned out!

They add a little whimsy, and texture to my space.

My teenage daughter thinks they are, "pretty fabulous," so that's a bonus!

They provide more seating, without taking up a ton of visual space.

And really, they are just pretty cool!

My Favorite Digital Art

Today, on Studio 5, I'm dishing on my favorite floral digital art.

Floral art adds a bit of, "happy," to every space. I have been displaying these in my home, and giving them out to friends as gifts. They are always warmly received.

I didn't mention it in my segment, but wanted to provide a link to the etsy shop where I purchased my digital art here. The name of the shop, is Kathy Panton Art. You can see what she's got by clicking HERE. You can also follow her on Instagram @KathyPantonArt

These are a few of my favorites from her shop!

Check her shop out. It is so beautiful and so happy!

I also shared two tips for displaying printed art in your home:

1) Use a professional print shop for your printing needs. It will look way better and more saturated than anything you can do at home, and the paper will be higher quality.

I know not all my readers live by me, but the local print shop I recommend and love, is
here in Davis County, Utah. They are so easy to work with, and their prints are very high quality. Their prices are very reasonable, and I think I actually save money by using them, and not burning through ink cartridges on my printer.

2) Mount your print on top of the glass, so you don't have to look through the glass to see the art. This will help you maintain that handmade feel that we all know and love, and I think it actually makes it look more professional and expensive.

Florals are the perfect addition to any decor in the winter.  Add some to your home today!
