Valentines Day Banner tutorial

My amazing friend Kami hung this banner over her door at Christmas, that was so cool, so I just had to copy her, and hang one over my door for Valentines Day. Kami, are you reading this? When are you getting a blog???

This cost less than $5 to make, and took less than 20 minutes.

You will need:

Wide Burlap Ribbon. I got mine at Hobby Lobby on sale for $5, and used about half the roll. It is really wide, like 5 inches.
Pink Burlap, or felt, or whatever you want. I used about 1/4 yard, and got it at Hobby Lobby.
Yarn or String. I already had mine on hand.
Something to mark your fabric with... I used a Galaxy Marker from Bennion Crafts. My mom used to use soap back in the day???
Mini Clothespins - I already had mine on hand, but you can get them at Hobby Lobby.

You could sew instead of glue, but I was feeling rather lazy.

You decide if you want to sew or not. The clothespins won't be necessary if you sew.

Cut a heart out of paper, and place it over your burlap ribbon, making sure it seems the right size for the ribbon you found. Use your galaxy marker (or soap) to outline the hearts on the pink burlap.

Once you have traced the hearts, go ahead and cut them out. I cut out nine.

Cut your burlap into strips making sure to leave enough on top that it can be folded over the yarn/string and still look nice. I left an extra inch.

Hot glue or sew your hearts onto the chevron burlap. I hot glued - wasn't in the mood to get the sewing machine out.
Fold the top of your chevron burlap ribbon over the top of the yarn, and secure in place using a clothespin - no sewing or gluing necessary.

Hang it wherever you want. Wasn't that EASY!?!

I love having it hang over my front door, and yes, we have extra tall doors, because we have 9ft ceilings on our main floor, so the hubby won't hit his head and be extra happy about my banner, (in case anyone was concerned).

Be sure and come back for a full tutorial on my arrow pillow on my front porch.

Have a Happy and Creative Day!

Baby Shower Banner

I hosted a baby shower this weekend, and I wanted to do something different for the banner (without having to spend any additional money). So, I decided to make a onesie banner, using the onesies I was giving to the mom-to-be as a gift.

First, I have to apologize, because the photos are not very good. I started taking the pictures, then my card was full, then the doorbell rang, and people were here, so I didn't get any really good shots taken, but it was darling.

I used the same table cloth and basic decor I used for Sophie's baptism luncheon.

I just got twine, and used old fashioned clothes pins that I purchased from Hobby Lobby to hang the onesies.

The onesies were my gift to her, and I just took them down at the end, and handed them to her. She loved it, and I think everyone else did too.

Sophia Banner

So, I wasn't going to make a big deal out of this,
but I couldn't help it.
I LOVE banners, and wanted to make
a cute one for her special day.

I wanted it to be a little chunky, and chose
not to use my paper cutter.

If you want the same look, this is what you need to do...

Choose papers you like. I bought super thick ones (for the most part) from Hobby Lobby. Then I bought matching beads, and used string and tulle that I already had.

I chose thick paper, because I wanted to glue wooden letters on, for more depth.

Paint your letters, and glue them to the paper when dry. I just used regular Elmer's type glue from the dollar store, and it worked very well.

Poke small holes with a tack through your paper, and string the beads, tulle, and paper on in the order you choose. I had 3 papers that were thinner, and I ended up taping the backs, so the weight of the beads wouldn't force them to bow. Now that I have it, I think I am going to hang it in Sophie's room, or save it for a future birthday party or something.

Crazy about Carrots!!!

I think my favorite item to decorate with this Easter season is carrots!!! I love them. They are bright and happy, and add a little more excitement to any Easter decor than just eggs and bunny's.

I got these carrots at Shopko - 3 for $5, and I can't seem to get enough! I made the garland by tying dollar store twine around the top of each one, and then threading the twine through the back of the loop.

Here are a couple more places I have them in my house:

I thought the mirror was clean, but apparently not!

This is how I bought them. FUN!!!

Easter garland for my kids beds

I love decorating my kids rooms for every holiday, and Easter is no exception. I thought I would make this quick garland for each one of their beds. This is SO easy. You can do it with your kids. They will love it! I know they are a bit cheesy, but it's a kids room, and they love it! The best part... I spent about $4 for both projects!!!

To do this project, you will need:

1) Plastic Eggs
2) Plastic Carrots (I got mine from Dollar Tree - 8 for $1!)
3) Thick floss, you can find in any craft store. Thicker than thread, and thinner than twine.
4) Hemp or twine. I got mine from the dollar store also. (You could do ribbon, rope, or lace... the possibilities are endless!)
5) Scissors

Cut floss in about 7 inch lengths.
Tie around carrot top with a double knot.
Tie a bow above the carrot.

Thread floss through each egg, starting and ending on the outside. You can use any of the holes, and really get creative with how you hang them!

Tie a bow on top, leaving a large enough loop to be able to thread the twine through.

Place the carrots and eggs in whatever pattern you like. and thread them on the twine!

A couple variations could include threading beads onto the twine in between the carrots and eggs, and gluing buttons, stickers, letters or other embellishments on the eggs. You could personalize it, or keep it simple.

This is a SUPER easy and inexpensive project that adds color and fun to any room. You will be done in no time! We are talking INSTANT gratification!
